We're all familiar with the frustrations of being caught in a feedback loop where everything is out of synch. We hear things twice. We respond, but then cannot verify that it registered so we do it again, hit a key, or repeat what we're saying. This only sets off another cascade of rebounding echoes and we turn away from the task. It's impossible!
But this is how we spend our lives. We insist on doing things twice. We get out of synch and can't tell how, or even if, we've connected at all. In our frustration we loose any grip and fall into anger or despair.
What I'm getting at is the way we do not accept when our organism has carried out an action, whether a perception or a response. Instead we insist that it is only when the internal thinker has entered the loop that we have actually accomplished something. Otherwise it was,
"Just an accident."
"Luck!"
"Unrepeatable, therefore invalid!"
We do this physically. The greatest insights in Qi Gong have come from a realization that the body does not need a driver. It can stand and move and balance and respond much better if the illusory driver gets out of the way. If "he" stops forcing us to do everything twice, putting us into that crazy echo chamber where synchronization is impossible to maintain.
We do this psychologically. We insist that it is not enough to feel or to act, but that we must remark upon it, judge it, and then control the situation.
All that happens is that we take the possibility of doing things once, and with some integration resulting from the immediacy of that doing, and we force ourselves into that echo chamber yet again.
It is enough to be.
It is enough to feel.
It is enough to act.
Let's give ourselves a chance!
Let's let go of doing everything twice.
