What is at the root of our crisis of leadership?

We expect a leader to "play the part."

Anyone caught-up in roles has nothing to offer us in our predicament.

Facing our predicament requires that we embrace uncertainty and set-aside the doing-things-twice role playing forces upon us. Someone acting in this way just does not, "Look like a leader."

Not that anyone else does these days…. Those attempting to hold onto power, and those who align themselves with this foolishness, strive to prop-up a line-up of Narcissistic Merchants of Delusion and Enforcers of Separation as players in a theater of leadership.

Rope-a-dope….

This dynamic reflects the underlying chasm between those who see no alternative to the Realm of Negotiation, and find – and breed – nothing but terror. Unable to contemplate any other response to uncertainty they reject outright those who have discovered we have no choice.

"We have no choice…"

How we react or respond to this statement says a lot about how we see the world.

The Realm of Negotiation sits atop an assumption that we are all consumers of a variety of choices. And, that this perception of choice is where we find the room to pursue happiness.

An artist works to discover where we have no choice and then to realize it.

Choice is another term for the arbitrary. Faced with an arbitrary view of a situation we have no way of telling whether our response is arbitrary also – and likely stereotypical and therefore the antithesis of a creative response. Stereotypical reactions are manifestations of our being trapped in behavioral ruts: another way of describing conditioning.

Recognizing where the arbitrary choices end and where necessity resides in a situation – and then meeting this realization with a creative response emerging from this moment and its movement; we have found room to be effective. More than that, we have found another realm entirely.

From this position we can engage with the Realm of Compassion.

None of this is visible from within a view circumscribed by a search for – or an attempt to become – a leader.
